Legendary
(3)
Dynamite
One of your pieces is booby-trapped. If it captures or gets captured by a normal move, it explodes — itself included — along with the 8 adjacent squares (never kings).
Laser Beam
One of your long-range pieces fires a beam that destroys everything on the line, all the way to the edge — kings pass through unharmed.
Turncoat
While in check, the enemy piece threatening your king switches sides and joins your camp.
Rare
(24)
Atomic Piece
Choose one of your pieces and blow it up: it vanishes along with everything on the 8 surrounding squares.
Body Double
In checkmate, your king and one of your pawns swap squares.
Chromatic Cleanup
Removes all black pawns on white squares and all white pawns on black squares.
Coup d'État
Your king swaps squares with the opponent's king — even in check, or checkmate.
Double Bishop
The same bishop slides twice in a row. It can capture on each slide.
Double Gallop
The same knight jumps twice in a row. It can capture on each jump.
Double Rook
The same rook slides twice in a row. It can capture on each slide.
Emergency Takeoff
In checkmate, your king escapes to any free, safe square on the board.
Frame-Up
Swap an opponent's knight with an opponent's bishop — you rearrange the opponent's pieces.
Guardian Angel
While in check, bring back your last captured piece and interpose it between your king and the threatening piece.
Home Stretch
One of your pawns already on the 6th rank is immediately promoted to a Queen.
Knightmare
One of your knights swaps squares with an opponent's knight.
Poisoned Piece
One of your pieces becomes poisoned. If the opponent captures it with a normal move, their capturing piece is destroyed along with it — unless it's their king, always spared.
Push
Your pawn advances onto an occupied square and pushes the whole line of pieces in front of it one square, without capturing anyone.
Reappearance
Recover the last piece your opponent captured from you and bring it back on a free square of its original home rank.
Rook Tango
Your rook swaps squares with an opponent's rook. Both lose their castling rights.
Royal Exchange
Your queen swaps squares with the opponent's queen.
Savior Pawn
While in check, the enemy piece threatening your king becomes a simple pawn.
Self-Defense
Cancels your opponent's last capture: your piece returns to its square, and the piece that took it disappears.
Shield
After your move, the piece you just moved can't be captured by a normal move on the opponent's next turn.
Slumber
An opponent's piece of your choice falls asleep: it can't make a normal move (castling included) until either king has been put in check. A card can still move it.
Survivor
If you have only one pawn left on the board, it is immediately promoted to a Queen.
Undo
Cancels your opponent's last move. They must now play a different one.
Vampire
Your next move must be a capture: the capturing piece then becomes the type of piece it just captured.
Common
(31)
A Day in My Life
One of your bishops swaps squares with an opponent's bishop.
Back Step
For this move, one of your pawns can capture diagonally backward.
Bouncing Bishop
Your bishop slides diagonally; if it reaches the edge without meeting anything, it bounces once and keeps going.
Breakthrough
One of your pawns captures the piece right in front of it, straight ahead — a move normally forbidden for pawns.
Central Reinforcement
Recover one of your captured pawns and place it on one of the 4 central squares.
Double Advance
Two of your pawns each advance two squares, with no capture possible.
Draughts
One of your pawns jumps diagonally over an adjacent piece and lands on the empty square right behind it — the jumped piece is not captured.
Forced Truce
No card can be played, by anyone, until a king is put in check.
Fresh Start
Discard your whole hand and draw 4 new cards.
Fright
An enemy pawn retreats 1 or 2 squares, terrified.
Homecoming
Send one of your pieces back to a starting square matching its current type.
Infiltration
Two of your pawns swap places, each with an opponent's pawn of your choice.
Lost Pawn
Removes a completely isolated enemy pawn — no piece on any of its 8 neighboring squares.
Marriage Proposal
Your queen moves to an empty square right next to your king — or the other way around, your king comes to your queen's side.
Metamorphosis
One of your bishops permanently turns into a knight, on its square. You then play your move as normal.
Movement Constraint
Your opponent must move a piece other than their king or queen on their next move.
Pas de Deux
One of your knights swaps squares with one of your bishops.
Pegasus
One of your knights teleports to a free square of the opposite color to its own.
Perimeter
One of your pieces (except a pawn) on the board's edge teleports to another free square on the edge.
Push Forward
All your pawns advance one square. Any that are blocked stay in place.
Reorganization
One of your bishops swaps squares with one of your rooks. The rook loses its castling rights.
Tackle
One of your pawns captures the piece right next to it, left or right, on the same rank.
The Rook
Your rook jumps over one of your own pieces, then keeps sliding straight ahead — it can capture the first enemy piece it meets beyond (never the king).
Towing
A pawn advancing without capturing tows the piece of yours directly behind it: it advances one square too.
Triple Step
One of your pawns advances straight ahead as far as possible (up to 3 squares). No captures possible.
Twins
Move two of your pieces of the same type at once (bishops, knights, rooks, or pawns) — each makes a normal move.
Universal Bishop
One of your pieces (except a pawn) slides like a bishop, diagonally, without ever capturing.
Universal Queen
One of your pieces (rook, bishop, or knight) slides like a queen, in a line or diagonally, without ever capturing.
Vanish
Removes one of your own pieces (never your king) from the board. You then play your move as normal.
Vengeance
In reaction to one of your pieces being captured, remove one of your opponent's pawns.
Zombie
Choose 2 of your captured pawns and 2 of your opponent's captured pawns: they come back on a free square of their starting rank.
